Flexible online mixed methods design (FOMM) has been introduced (Lobe, 2006) as an iterative model that allows more flexible mixing of qualitative and quantitative methods in a single study. This paper presents the philosophical and practical aspects of employing an online design. Such multicycled research process proved to be stimulating and beneficial for the research participants as they are given the chance to collaborate in the research process in terms of being co-researchers to ensure congruence, to elevate and consummate findings as the product of the mutual communication between the researchers and the participants. Therefore, it can be based in the participatory inquiry paradigm. Following, data quality standards inherent to qualitative and quantitative traditions, such as validity, reliability, credibility etc., are discussed and suggestions are made as to how increased flexibility influences each of them. Additional data quality standards are introduced: ‘two-level mutual triangulation’ and ‘two-level mutual complementarity’.
